Privacy is part of the product, not just the legal text.
Read how Rakaat keeps prayer data local-first, uses private iCloud sync only when enabled, and avoids tracking, ad networks, and forced accounts.
Rakaat is built as a local-first prayer companion. Your prayer data stays on your device by default, and optional sync uses your private iCloud database.
Data We Store
- Prayer completions, Nafl sessions, and excused prayer facts are stored locally using SwiftData.
- Settings such as appearance, prayer calculation preferences, reminders, and accessibility options are stored locally in UserDefaults.
- In-app notification history is stored on-device to show scheduled and delivered notifications.
Optional Permissions
- Location (When In Use): used to calculate accurate prayer times and improve Qibla direction guidance. Manual city mode is available.
- Notifications: used for prayer alerts, pre-prayer reminders, motivational reminders, and Fajr alarm.
- Apple Health (Mindful Minutes): optional, used only to sync prayer sessions as Mindful Minutes in Apple Health.
- Health data scope: Rakaat only uses the Mindful Session category and does not access other Apple Health categories.
- iCloud Sync: optional CloudKit Private Database sync for prayer logs, Nafl sessions, and excused prayer facts across your devices.
- Apple Home (HomeKit): optional, used locally on-device to read your scenes and schedule automations based on prayer times. Your Home data never leaves your device.
- Siri & Shortcuts: optional, used to provide voice interactions and expose prayer data for your personal automations.
What We Do Not Do
- No behavioral analytics and no usage tracking.
- No advertising identifiers.
- No sale of personal data and no sharing with ad networks.
- No background location tracking for profiling.
- No medical or clinical health data access (such as conditions, lab results, medications, or records).
Data Control
- You can disable iCloud Sync at any time from Settings.
- You can clear activity data from Data Management. This removes prayer and Nafl activity from this device and iCloud when sync is enabled.
- Removing the app deletes local app data according to iOS behavior.
